IVT Expo 2019 to showcase innovative Altra powertrain solutions
From February 13th – 14th, visitors to the Industrial Vehicle Technology (IVT) Expo will be able to meet with leading brands of the Altra Industrial Motion Corp., to see first-hand a selection of high-performance power transmission components for industrial and off-highway vehicles. Taking place in Hall 11.1 of Köln Messe in Cologne, Germany, attendees will be able to discuss their specific powertrain requirements with Altra Industrial Motion Corp. representatives on Stand 2068.
Altra combines leading power transmission brands under one umbrella, providing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and vehicle manufacturers with access to standard and custom solutions including brakes, clutches, couplings and linear actuators. Able to support diesel, hybrid or electric powertrains, Altra manufactures all products in-house, ensuring consistent high quality plus plug-and-play integration between its products for reduced assembly times. The business even offers OEMs drivetrain torsional vibration analysis to prove performance for an application. Supported industries include agriculture, forestry, commercial and construction vehicles.
Altra’s breadth of expertise is reflected in the products on the stand. Stromag, a provider of industrial clutches, couplings and brakes since 1932, will be displaying a number of its innovative designs. First up is the KMB hydraulically released, spring applied brake, which can be specified in dry or wet configuration for lower maintenance requirements. Ideal for mobile applications, the range can be specified in braking torque ranges from 50 Nm to 50,000 Nm and above. Stromag also offers its customers the benefit of plug-and-play designs, either as part of finished assemblies or sub-assemblies for quick integration into axles or gearboxes. The KMB is a long-standing favourite of end users in the construction sector.
Along with brakes, Stromag is a leading manufacturer of clutches such as the MWU range. Favoured in agricultural machinery and municipal vehicles, the MWU features a single disc, backlash-free, electromagnetic design. Its compact dimensions, zero backlash characteristics and low power consumption makes this clutch ideal for hybrid and other powertrains. Different coil voltages and hub bore dimensions mean this clutch can be tailored to suit a new design or modified to be integrated in an existing vehicle drivetrain with increased ease.
Together with Stromag on the stand will be Warner Electric, a global leader in the development of electromagnetic clutches and brakes since 1927. Among the products on show will be fan drive clutches, which are engaged only when required. This feature results in improved fuel economy, quicker engine warm up and increased engine performance. Providing high torque in a small envelope, fan clutches can be specified in electromagnetic on/off and hydraulically actuated, multi-disc designs, with custom solutions to meet specific customer requirements.
Air conditioning compressor and fan clutches, well suited for busses, trucks and off highway equipment will also be present. Warner AC compressor and fan clutches offer dynamic engagement. Furthermore, customised designs are available for plug-and-play integration.
Regenerative braking is a technology that is enhancing the economy of all vehicles. Warner Electric’s PK (Pancake) brakes offers a cost competitive, highly efficient solution in this regard. These dry electromagnetic brakes work in conjunction with the AC motor and improve overall vehicle efficiency. Featuring a one-piece design for easy assembly, the PK brake combines low power consumption, increased battery life and reduced maintenance requirements. A compact footprint also ensures that the PK can be inserted into drive trains that offer minimal space, which in terms of the packaging typical of hybrid and electric vehicles, is a distinct advantage.
